Location: Eaglecrest Ski Area, Juneau, Alaska
It has been an unusually warm and snow-free winter this year in Juneau, Alaska. Even the base of Juneau’s ski mountain, Eaglecrest, had no snow when I went up there in late January to scout out photo shoot locations.
A small rock quarry on the side of the road laid bare. Its black rock exposed, hill destroyed, boulders piled up in a heap. It was a sad and abandoned place. I knew I wanted to shoot there. Contrast it with misplaced beauty, youthfulness, life.
Nearby, a bog with a thin frozen crust waited for a layer of snow. A nearby sign read, “The Beauty and The Bog.” The place begged for a photo shoot.
